Packing and the weather forecast

With this week’s weather at home, I know it will be difficult for anyone to want to pack sweaters and coats/wind breakers. The forecast conditions on the Oregon coast are for “highs” between 60 and 65 much of the week.

Meet:  Horseshoe Grange, 9:00 AM, Sunday, 2 August
Depart:  9:30 AM, Sunday, 2 August
 
Sunday Plans: To Camp Meriwether

1. Estimated travel time 6.5 hours with traffic
2. Bring a sack lunch
3. We'll likely tour some museum/factory/etc near camp
   • Fort Clatsop
   • Tillamook Cheese Factory
   • Tillamook Air Museum
     
4. Bring dinner money, as we'll be stopping for (healthy) fast food
5. ETA at Meriwether, sometime Sunday evening, before dusk, with enough time to set up camp and get a good night's sleep before Monday morning.

Estimated Return:
Mid-Afternoon to Early Evening Saturday, 8 July
Recommending knowing which driver your scout will be returning with, and exchanging mobile contact information.

Health

With guidance from the CDC, BSA has developed guidelines and policies to address the current influenza situation (starting with don't panic).  Please review the following document.

In accordance with the suggestions, I have obtained 24 bottles of 2oz hand sanitizer. The Scouts (and adults) will be advised in the recommended preventive measures.

Merit Badges

Review the Camp Handbook pages on Merit Badges as soon as possible. Several merit badges have prerequisites that must be done in order to complete the merit badge during camp.

Merit Badges with prerequisites:

• Environmental Science (Complete Reg. 1, 3, 4 prior to camp. Bring pencil, paper and bottle for collection.)
• Citizenship in the World (Bring pencil, paper and magazine or newspaper articles about world events)
• Camping (Complete Reg. 7b, c, 8c, 9a, b, c prior to camp.)
• First Aid (Must know Tenderfoot– 1st Class Rank Requirements for First Aid or attend afternoon TTFC for first aid. Bring home first aid kit described in req. 2d.)
• Orienteering (Review req. 1 - 6 before coming to camp. Bring your own orienteering compass.)
• Pioneering (Review Req. 3 before camp. Practice Knots)

Scouts will need to bring pencil/pen and paper to most classes.
