Parent
Committee Meeting
Minutes
The meeting was held
at
In attendance were
Don Kohler, Marc Bardsley, Gary Iverson and Beverly Kazmi.
This year our Unit
Popcorn Kernel is Don Kohler. All
popcorn information has been handed out to each scout and they are out selling.
This is an outing
that we have invited Webelos from Pack 2 and Pack 36
to join us. A good number of people from
the troop have signed up to attend so far.
It will be held on
There will be a
number of structured activities such as cooking, fire building, wood chopping,
lake water activity, fishing, games, etc.
Don will do a fire starter activity as well as a flint and steel
demonstration. Marc will provide
firewood. We are going to ask Erik LaBerge to bring his guitar if he has one. Marc will also get together with Chris
regarding handout brochures that were given to the Webelos
regarding the weekend outing.
Cooking will be more
structured with the use of dutch
ovens and other methods encouraged as well as expanding the menu. The menu will have a theme and each patrol
will pick a recipe complete with a shopping list out of a hat at the troop meeting
to prepare at the outing.
Marc suggested that
we blend the Webelos in with the troop. Don suggested with
The adults will
prepare their own meals with Marc making stew for dinner. Don will prepare breakfast the next morning. Marc volunteered to bring grills and fry pans
to use on the open fire for breakfast.
Many people will be
providing boats.
We are going to
There was discussion
of tabling it for this year but then Gary and Marc volunteered to talk with
people to see if he could locate a place to hold the party.
We will be holding a
Dutch Oven Cook off at Blackman’s Lake on December 7, 2003 in the
afternoon.
As a troop we own
only one sledge and are in need of 2-3 more because of the size of our
troop. We are going to ask Howard
Perkins, our Master Carpenter, if he would coordinate the building of the
sledges.
We would also like
to have a whole day to practice the events that the scouts will participate in
like we did last year.
It was also
suggested to send an adult member of our troop to the Klondike Committee
Meetings.
We will ask at the
next troop meeting if anyone is interested in attending a clinic at the home of
Ted Allested to make snowshoes. The cost of the clinic is $12.00 and you have
your very own snowshoes to use on troop outings or other outings that you may
take in the snow. If there is enough
interest we will take paid reservations and make a date with Ted to do this.
We will be holding
our Annual Troop Christmas Party at our troop meeting on
There will be many
activities including a white elephant exchange and lots of wonderful Christmas
goodies to share and eat.
The Patrol Leaders
Council did not meet this month due to a large number of them attending the
Order of the Arrow Ordeal at
Friends of Scouting (FOS)
This year our Unit
FOS Chairman is Don Kohler. We will be
having a formal presentation to the Troop some time after January, 2004.
We discussed the
research done by Don where he has visited with other units to find out how they
handle discipline. The results were
varied with a wide variety of ways that it was handled. Registered Troop Committee Members will vote
on this discipline revision to the Troop Handbook.
The next Troop 478
Troop Committee Meeting will be held on
It was also pointed
out that we do not have use of the
